DONNA WALLER – VIOLIN, VIOLA
Donna graduated from George Mason University with a BS degree in education. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association. She continues her education by attending master classes held at GMU and Indiana University and numerous workshops. Donna has been a member of the Loudon Symphony, as first violinist, and of the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra as second violinist. She has served as a judge for the Solo & Ensemble Festival and for Senior and Junior Regional auditions for the NCVO.
Donna founded the Allegro Youth Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble which have traveled to New York City and Orlando, among other places, and have competed in high school festivals where they earned top awards. Many of her private students have received superior and excellent ratings at the Solo and Ensemble and VBODA Festivals. She has prepared her students for college auditions.
“Why do I teach? Because it’s my gift from God and I LOVE it!” She says, “My students are taught based on a proven curriculum with their own temperaments, personalities, abilities, and gifts. I believe that all students, if given instructions based on their learning styles, can learn to be fine musicians. Knowing that many will not go on to be professional in the field of music, my goal is to enable my students to go as far as they can with as much enjoyment as possible. If they have a positive experience, perhaps they will continue to play into adulthood, become patrons of the arts, and will someday encourage their own children to play music.”
